Worship. For Real.

Worship with the Lord is the most intimate and vulnerable act one can partake in. It truly is that time to forget about yourself and what you maybe going through in life and just surrender to God in that moment. Not all worship is at church, in the building surrounded by the sound system or the band that played your favorite song. its more than that. Which makes me worried when when I hear clichés like, boy we had worship’ or ‘man that song was great’. So the only reason you felt like you worshipped was because you were smoothly coaxed into feeling good. Doesn’t the Bile say to enter his gates with thanksgiving and to enter his courts with praise. In other words, by the time you get inside the building or wherever you worship you should have already been ready to expect God and his presence. Not saying that the choir or the fellowship or music aren’t important or are aprt of ministry and how others connect tot he Lord, but that’s just it as well. each plays its part to user the Lord’s presence in. But we have to be sure that we understand the reason why we worship. Either together or alone. Worship is starting to get a stigma of it being all about how great the music was or how loud everyone shouted and how many people reacted. Worship is more. So I wanted to get back to basics to what true worship is and how to always remember the true meaning and how not to get caught up in the ‘fluff’ of it all.

Ask Yourself: What is Worship? John 4:23-24 – “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and truth.” Worship is honoring the Lord with your time, heart and spirit. Letting go of your selfish wants and needs and focusing on the wonder of who God is. Giving all of yourself to Him in that moment because you love him. Worship does just happen because you heard a great; though it can be sparked by that and there is nothing wrong with that if it does, but the heart of worship is being focused on God and who He is out of love.

Ask Yourself: Why Is It Important? Romans 12:1 – “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” Worship can be demonstrated each day as well. How we treat others or even how we react when life throws a curve ball. Worship is a way to give thanks and honor to God for even the small things in our lives. Worship is important because it allows us to be reminded that our lives are filled by knowing God’s purpose. And we know God by time spent with him in worship. When we seek the Lord and call out to him, he hears us. When we are eager to reach out to God, he sees our heart and reaches out to us as well. We gain a better understanding of who God is when we make it our goal to know his heart. God’s heart is for His people. All we have to do is come to Him truly with a spirit that seeks His will and desire to honor Him. True worship can be found in all that we do with a honest heart.
