Are You Helping or Hindering?

Two weeks ago, I was looking at a video on my Facebook feed and it was one talking about how Denzel Washington helped a Chadwick Boseman pay for his college tuition. In the five minute video it talks about Chadwick’s career and how that extra boost encouraged and helped him along the way and he didn’t want to waste this opportunity. Years later when they interviewed Denzel on his thoughts about Black Panther and it’s cast, and he made a statement further along into the interview that stuck with me when he said that, ‘you’ll never know who you’ll touch… I’m glad to be in a very small way apart it.’

This video really encouraged me and challenged me to think if I was doing my part as a disciple to help my brothers and sisters in Christ. Was I an asset to their life or not. Jesus was around 12 men for most of his ministry and as he was with them he was helping them, teaching them, influencing them. Molding them into the disciples that could carry on the Gospel even after he went up to heaven. So its our part as well to help the next generation of believers grow and spread the Gospel of Jesus. So how do we do that?

Gain Wisdom James 1:5 – If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. We can’t gain a better understanding of the Bible or about prayer or even about who Jesus is without study or praying often. Making these tasks a part of our day to day is a great way for us get better to help others be better. Now again, the Lord is the ultimate heart changer, but our role is to impact as we impart the truth and love of God. And that can’t be done without gaining knowledge

Know That We All Play a Part Hebrews 13:16 – And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. It can be easy to sit in a comfortable, quiet Christian lifestyle and just be good and don’t do this and don’t do that. But we have to remember that God saved us for a purpose. And that purpose Is not to keep the gospel to ourselves and stay comfortable. We play a role in helping our brothers and sisters in Christ reach a higher destiny. Reach for God’s promise. And as well as we are all going through this journey it helps tremendously to know that we are not alone. Ecclesiastes 4:9 reads, ‘two are better than one, because together they can work more effectively. If one falls down, the other can help him up…’ We really are stronger together and are meant to hold each others burdens and even hold each other accountable. Along with the power of the Lord’s guidance, we can help one another. Seeking the interests of others, rather than our own, is just how God wants us to be. So how can you help today?
