Don’t Let Worry Take Over

Worry. We deal with it everyday. Both men and women. But an article from TODAY Health, did a survey which took place in 2010 and 2011. And it showed that 22% of women felt worried, nervous and anxious daily, compared to the 16% of men. These results then lead to the question, why?

Reading more into this, I was curious to see what exactly did women worry about? And I found tons of articles and surveys showing that us women worry about everything. From what to wear, to being liked, future plans, biologucal clock, leaving the house with no make-up, showing too much cleavage and more. And all this worry could be in just one day.

Now before we all curl up in a stress ball of anxiety that tells us all hope is lost, consider this, not all worry is bad. Its a nice little flashing light that reminds of whats important to remember and what to take seriously.  So some worry is good. I stress some. The goal is not to let the small worries build and build to more than you can handle. There has to be a balance. Worry about those things that are vital to you. Those things that have value. Keep your mind on the positive. (“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” Philippians 4:8) 

Here are two more steps to help rid yourself of too much worry.

  1. Get a piece of paper and write down the things you worry about the most and things you worry about the least. Then after you make that list think if these worries will add value or not to your day or to yourself. Now if its worries you can’t control let it go. Those are not worries you should hold onto.
  2. Give those worries to God in prayer. Pray for God to help you with these big worries and give you peace to handle it. And then pray for the Lord to help you let go of the little worries. (Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. 2 Thessalonians 3:16)

It’s ok. Again it’s ok. Worry is apart of life. But it does not have to take over our lives. Let’s focus on the now and not the worry of tomorrow.
