I know I’m a person that can get distracted pretty easily. Especially when my plans are derailed from the normal routine I had so carefully planned. Though I know the same can be said about many people, so at least I’m not by myself. But those distractions that come our way can last a moment, a few days or a few weeks, unexpectedly holding out attention longer than we thought. Soon before we know it we’ve stepped away from our time with Christ and are now being held by our job or lack there of, or a rocky marriage, car trouble, debt trouble, bill troubles, etc. That distraction that blew in started off so small, has now grown into a full storm. When life throws us the never welcomed unexpected, it is normal to turn our attention to the problem. I mean, we can’t ignore it, right? But, there is something else we can do when troubles come. We can allow God to hold our attention instead. So, why should we allow God to hold our attention?
So Our Distraction Does Not Become Our god Exodus 20:2 – You shall have no other gods before me. When we allow our troubles to hold our attention and dictate our every move, we are no longer being led by the spirit of God, but by the spirit of fear, worry, doubt, stress, all these can lead us to the wrong places. Places where we feel so trapped that we can’t see our way out.
So Christ Can Give You What You Need Philippians 4:19 – “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” When your attention is held by the wrong thing, we neglect to see that our deliverance, peace, comfort and freedom is found in Christ. He has all we need. When we forget, we loose site of his greatness and only focus on our weakness. Christ gives us more than just the material, he provides us with what we need to grow spiritually and teaches us how to rely on Him.
So Christ Can Make Us Stronger 1 Chronicles – Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. The reality is that we can not do it all on our own. Well, we can not do anything on our own. One of our biggest issues as humans is that we refuse to seek help or refuse to show that we are week. We always have to have it all together, right? No. There will be times where we don’t have it all together, and when that happens we should turn our attention to Christ. He will hold us through all we go through. We just have to keep our eyes on Him. He’s never too far away and is always eager to listen when we call. No matter what we go through, He should hold our attention, not our troubles.
